5 Health Tips While Traveling

There are many wonderful things about going on vacation: new experiences, meeting people, trying different food, and the opportunity to relax. However, sometimes an unfortunate side-effect of traveling is that it might leave you feeling under the weather. 1. Set Yourself up for Success

How to stay healthy while traveling doesn’t start at the airport. Before going on a long drive, bus, train, or flight, it’s important that you leave the house well-rested, fed, and adequately hydrated. Maintaining this practice two days before your trip already saves you from getting too tired or dehydrated while traveling. If anything else, drinking water, eating well, and decent sleep hygiene are excellent health practices to uphold anyway. 

2. Hydration Station

Sometimes in all the vacation excitement, it’s easy to forget to drink water. Packing a reusable water bottle can be a lifesaver. Empty your reusable water bottle before going through security. Then, once you’re through, you can fill it up at a drinking fountain. Avoid alcoholic or caffeinated beverages before you fly as they will exacerbate dehydration. Drinking water will also help you feel more awake and rejuvenated while you’re exploring Virginia Beach. 

3. Pack Hand Sanitizer & First Aid Kit

While scrubbing your hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds is the best sanitation method, sometimes getting a sink isn’t an option. Having some hand sanitizer on your person is excellent for using public transportation or when you have to touch something that has been in contact with other people. A mini first aid kit will also serve you well. They don’t take up a lot of room, and you’ll be thankful for it in case you suddenly need a bandaid or some Advil. 

4. Keep Your Body Moving

Another excellent health and wellness tip is to exercise. Frequent travelers combat their post-travel exhaustion with a rejuvenating walk or run. If you’re able, choosing walking over transit when possible is excellent for exercise, and you’ll feel even more immersed in our beautiful city.

There are several restaurants with delectable bites in Virginia Beach, and the urge to go out and try them all can be tempting. However, moderation is a crucial health tip while traveling. Consider making a few of your own meals. You may find that it’s better for your digestive system (and your wallet!).
