Neptune Beach Park
Neptune Beach Park is hard to miss. A 34-foot tall, iconic statue of Neptune guards the park and beacons the Atlantic Ocean. The giant figure is one of the most photographed landmarks in the area. King Neptune stands proud, holding his trident and surrounded by a few of his nautical subjects including twelve fish, two dolphins, a sea turtle, and an octopus. Neptune serves to remind residents and visitors of every human’s responsibility to honor and respect Nature’s blessings.
The entrance to Neptune Park is at the intersection of the sand and the Virginia Beach Boardwalk at 31st Street. It is famous for sun, sand, surf, live music, the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, and the Neptune Fall Wine Festival.
Not to be confused with its many annual events, the Neptune Festival is a the-not-for-profit organization that oversees the operations of some forty events annually. The premier events managed by the Festival organizers include the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival and the Neptune Fall Wine Festival.
Virginia Beach Neptune Festival is held annually. The last weekend of September 2019 marks the 46th anniversary of the mega festival. Hundreds of thousands of people gather on the 32 blocks of the boardwalk to celebrate all things ‘beachy.’ Stages are set up and down the boardwalk to host 35 live music performances. The festival features 250 artisans, 22 sand sculptures designed by world-famous sand artists, and 8k race, a grand parade, volleyball tournaments, an Atlantic regatta, and much more. It is a slam packed weekend and a fitting tribute for the park’s namesake – King Neptune.
Neptune Fall Wine Festival is the second weekend in September. The three-day event is a wine lovers dream. Virginia wineries show off the best of their vines at tastings of over 70 wines. Bottles and cases are available for purchase. Food vendors offer delicious food, and live entertainment is performed on various stages along the boardwalk. The Neptune Fall Wine Festival is a ticketed event. Each ticket holder is admitted to tastings and takes away a commemorative wine glass.
